The 2017 Directors’ College program is underway and we hope you can attend.  This year’s program will provide directors and officers with valuable insights into evolving issues identified by the San Francisco Region.  The program will discuss risk mitigation and ways in which these evolving issues will impact your institution’s risk profile and CAMELS ratings.  The program will be led by a group of seasoned examiners with supervisory experience in community banks and large and complex financial institutions across the country over various economic cycles.

Program Description

The 2017 Directors’ College will be formatted as a mock-examination in which the bankers function as examiners in rating and assessing risk in a fictional bank.  A team of FDIC managers, senior examiners, and subject matter experts will assist in leading the participants through an analysis of the hypothetical bank’s capital, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity, and sensitivity to market risk components, as well as conducting a separate information technology examination.  The exercise will focus on more than just the ratings, and will seek to provide deeper understanding of how directors and officers can assess risk in each of these components.  The exercise will have a strong focus on developments in corporate governance, cyber-risk mitigation strategies, impacts of changing interest rates, and an unexpected decline in liquidity.  The conference will also include a locality specific economic update presented by the FDIC Division of Insurance and Research.  We believe participants will appreciate hearing about how examiners rate their bank and learning from our team’s diverse knowledge and experience.
